Oxidant. A catalyst for organic reactions. Steel analysis for rare earth metal standard samples. REDOX titration analysis. Bleached glass. Glass enamel sunscreen. Heat resistant alloy.

It is used as additive in glass industry, as grinding material of plate glass, and can also be used in cosmetics to resist ultraviolet rays. It has been extended to the grinding of glasses glass, optical lens and picture tube, which plays the role of decolorization, clarification, ultraviolet ray of glass and absorption of electron line.

Rare earth ions have a stable, bright color at high temperatures and are used to make colored glass by mixing them into liquid. Neodymium, praseodymium, erbium, cerium and other rare earth oxides are all glass colorants. When the absorption wavelength of the transparent glass with rare earth colorants is 400 ~ 700 nanometers of visible light, it presents a beautiful color. These stained glass can be used to make air navigation, all kinds of vehicles indicator lamp shade and all kinds of art decorations.

Neodymium oxide is added into sodium-calcium glass and lead glass. The color of the glass depends on the thickness of the glass, the content of neodymium and the strength of the light source. Praseodymium oxide produces a green color similar to chromium; Erbium oxide is pink in photochromic glass and crystal glass. The combination of cerium oxide and titanium dioxide makes the glass yellow. Praseodymium oxide and neodymium oxide can be used in praseodymium black glass.
